So, you’ve just hit the big 30 and you have a proper job, you may be married, even have a mortgage and kids, but if you are still wasting your money on chain store suits and slogan t-shirts - it’s time to up your game!
It’s a simple fact that first impressions count; you only have a few seconds to make that first impression… Venture out for some real tailoring.
If you are committed to your career, you need to invest in how you look. It is a fact that if you dress the part, you will most probably get it – so go one level up from your current position. Think modern styling but not fashion. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing your Dad’s suit or like you are going out on the town - leave the chalk stripes for the chairman.
Buy the best you can afford. If you can only afford one or two really good suits, play it safe and go for a mid-dark blue or grey – after all you don’t want to draw attention to the fact that you only have a limited wardrobe! Go for quality not quantity – quality stands out for the right reasons and quantity just looks cheap (plus it’s very bad for the environment).
Depending on where you work, you are young enough to wear colour or strong patterns and if you have the money, you really can stand out for the right reasons. If your office is smart casual; go for well-fitting chinos and shirts. Add a good pair of shoes and a warm jacket (tweed and cashmere are really practical and popular) and you are good to go!
If you want inspiration, think Eddie Redmayne, he is our favourite best dressed thirty something! He’s not afraid of colour, works a dinner suit to perfection and does smart casual to die for!
