If like us, you are suffering in the heat, it is time to embrace your inner Italian. You never see an Italian looking a mess in the hot summer, they just know how to dress to keep cool (the exception being when driving!).
So, what can we learn from our friends in Southern Europe?
Good ice cream is essential and with a gelateria on every corner, you are never far away from fabulous Italian ice cream. When it comes to dressing, natural fibres are the key, light coloured linen and cotton are cooler than anything; they absorb any moisture and reflect heat. Embrace men’s casual summer dressing with a white linen suit and a panama hat when outdoors; or for the ladies’, beautiful linen 7/8 trousers dressed with a white cotton shirt and straw hat.
Lastly, take a lesson from the players at Wimbledon and wrap some ice in a towel, put it around your neck to instantly cool yourself. Other ideas are to fill your hot water bottle with iced water and put a bowl of ice in front of a fan to waft cool air in your direction.
As with all Brits, no doubt we will soon be complaining about the cold & rain, having forgotten our wish for a hot summer!
