If like us, the diary is starting to fill up, you might want to think about what is lurking in your wardrobe. Our suggestion is that you plan ahead whenever possible, but that you should have some staple items in preparation for forthcoming events and last minute invitations.
We often get asked what they should be, so, here are our suggestions
Summer Staples for Women
Women have a much more complex wardrobe and often cannot be seen in the same outfit on more than one occasion. However, we believe that with a good capsule wardrobe you can mix and match for different looks and add to the collection as and when you see complimentary items.
You should have at least one little black dress that you can dress up or down with jewellery and accessories depending upon the occasion. A black shift with short sleeves will pay you back a hundred times over.
Colourful shift dresses (they can have short sleeves if you are conscious of your arms). It can be a versatile colour such as blue or red and can also be dressed with different accessories.
At least one summer dress – lightweight and good quality. These can usually be found in the High Street.
A classic evening dress.
If you don’t like dresses - a tuxedo suit might be more your style– the tux can be a daring colour or traditional black, but it should be cut to fit your body shape rather than off-the-peg unless you are 6ft tall and size 8!
Jackets – you should have a lightweight and a medium weight for different weather conditions and they should be able to be worn with dresses or trousers depending on the event. They should fit well i.e. you should be able to button them up – please forget Trinny & Suzannah’s advice from the early 2000s.
Either smart trousers or skirts (whichever you prefer) are great for chilly days and less formal events. They should co-ordinate with your jackets.
Tops to go with your trousers and skirts.
Shoes & Handbags – I think we all have multiple pairs of shoes, we just need a few pairs that go with the staples. So flats and heels that are comfortable to wear for the event in question. Wedges are good for events on grass as they don’t sink into the ground. Smart flats work with trousers and tuxedos if you struggle with heels.
If you are struggling with what to wear, or unable to find the ‘missing links’ in your wardrobe, please call us for advice and think about joining The Style Club.
Please allow a minimum of 8 weeks between your appointment and the event.
